STEP 18 – MOVEMENT AND EXERCISE

broken image

Remaining active throughout our lives is crucial if we are to have good heart health. MOVEMENT contracts the muscles and helps to push blood around the body; and any EXERCISE, when done regularly, can help to strengthen and increase heart muscle and boost its blood pumping ability.

The heart works harder when we exercise, and the vascular system efficiently delivers oxygen and nutrients to every corner of the body.

Regular exercise can help to improve general circulation, especially aerobic exercise such as brisk walking, running, swimming, and cycling. It can improve cardiovascular health by lowering blood pressure, maintaining stable blood sugar levels, and keeping cholesterol levels in the normal range.

Whether starting out on an exercise regime or maintaining a regular practice, muscles and joints can occasionally become tired and sore and need support. A variety of foods, including proteins, fats, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, omega fats, and foods high in magnesium, can all support the muscles and joints. Also, gentle and low-impact exercise such as swimming, stretching, and Pilates can be beneficial.
